Sofie Steegen

Sofie Steegen (°1996) is a ceramist living and working in Ghent. Sofie makes three-dimensional forms and sculptures from ceramics. Her sculptures seek to define the boundary between functionality, design, and art. This places her work under the ‘functional art’ heading, literally translated as ‘usable works of art’. However, her formal language organically becomes a dialogue between colour and materiality. She gets inspired by eccentric forms, from historical objects to trinkets with a cheerful and innocent representation.
